My Hogg Blog - Welcome
I had to resist calling this entire website my Hogg Blog.
(It can be the unofficial name.)
Truth be told, I’m quite shy when it comes to social media, so the idea of writing any sort of blog has always made me cringe. But for this project, I will bite the bullet. I hope to keep updated whoever is interested in the development of my graphic novel adaptation of James Hogg’s The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner.
Welcome to my blog and website.
A word on the title now. Explaining to people what I’m adapting always requires a deep breath first: a nine-word-and-twenty-two-syllable-long title does not sit well amongst modern punchy titles, or with modern attention spans for that matter.
More often than not, when it is referenced, ‘The Private Memoirs’ part is dumped leaving only the ‘Confessions of a Justified Sinner’. Whether or not Hogg was the first to make use of its intriguing implications, titles beginning ‘Confessions of a __’ have, by now, become a bit of a trope. You need only Google search:
For my adaptation, I’ve condensed the title down further to the part that intrigued me most before I’d even read the novel – the fact that the writer claims to be justified in his sin.
A Justified Sinner. Three words and only six syllables. Much easier!
